Capacity, and what actually fits

18 litres in a boxy 40 x 29 x 15 cm shape that swallows more than it looks: a jumper, lunch, a water bottle, a book and documents in their own sleeve. Side pockets carry a drink bottle and an umbrella. The recommended load is 3-6 kg.

How it carries

The Contact back uses ergonomically shaped pads that mould to your back and keep the load close, with gaps between the pads to let air through on a warm walk to work. When you want to change it up, carry it by the top handles like a shopping tote.

Fitting it

Deuter list the Vista for back lengths of 35-54 cm and people around 158-195 cm tall. Shorten the shoulder straps until the bag sits high and snug on your back rather than hanging low.

Access and organisation

A zipped top opening gives you a wide view into the main compartment, and press studs hold both zip ends to the sides so it stays open while you pack. Inside are an organiser for pens and phone, a document compartment, a valuables pocket and a key clip. A side smartphone pocket keeps your phone handy.
