• Racing triathlon? Start with a triathlon wetsuit. Orca's Athlex and Apex ranges are split into Float, Flow and Flex by how much lift your legs need.
• Ocean or bay swims, squad sessions? A swim-first suit from the Orca Vitalis range: sleeveless or shorty for warm water, 3 mm TRN for most of the year, Vitalis Thermal for winter.
• Cold water? Add a thermal neoprene cap or hood, Hydro Booties or swim socks, gloves and a Heatseeker vest.
• Swimming outside the flags? A hi-vis cap and a safety buoy make you far easier for boats and paddlers to spot.
