Description
The Deuter Mondego FB 6 is a simple, tough frame bag that puts tools, food and a spare tube in the middle of your bike, where the weight does not upset the handling. Strap it on for your first overnighter on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail or a long gravel loop through the hinterland.
Who it's for
Riders starting out in bikepacking, plus gravel and touring riders who want more than a saddle bag holds. Deuter rate it five out of five for road and gravel riding and for tours.
Fitting it to your bike
Four double hook-and-loop straps wrap the top tube and down or seat tube, and they adjust to different frame sizes and tube diameters, so it fits without tools. The bag is 46 cm long, 17 cm deep and 8 cm wide: hold a tape measure inside your front triangle before you buy, and check bottle cages still have room. Put protective film or foam under the straps where they touch paint.
Capacity and what fits
6 litres takes a tube, pump, multitool and tyre levers, plus snacks, a phone and a light rain shell. Keep the recommended load to 1-3 kg so the bag holds its shape against your knees. A zipped side pocket keeps cash and keys apart from the tools.
Weatherproofing
The main fabric is a 420D polyamide with a double PU coating, rated to a 1500 mm water column, so showers and road spray stay out of the fabric. Access is by zip, so for multi-day trips in wet weather keep your phone and spare layer in a small dry bag inside.
Stability when loaded
Four strap points hold the bag along the tube so it does not swing. Pack heavy things low and towards the front, and tighten the straps again after the first few kilometres.
Looking after it
It carries reflective details for low light and is made without intentionally added PFAS.
