Gravity Motion

The Deuter Gravity Motion is a crag pack built like a duffel. Lay it face down, unzip the back panel along its full length, and your harness, rack, shoes and chalk bag are all in view, while the padded back stays clean of dust and leaf litter.

Who it's for

Sport and trad climbers walking into the crag for the day. Deuter give it five out of five for climbing, and the 6-10 kg recommended load covers a rope, rack, harness, shoes, water and lunch. Think a day at Frog Buttress, a walk-in at Mount Arapiles, or a session in the Blue Mountains at Diamond Falls.

Capacity, and what actually fits

40 litres swallows a harness, helmet, a sport rack or a light trad rack, shoes, a chalk bag, a belay jacket, water and food. A rope rides on the outside under the rope strap, and an inside pocket keeps keys and phone safe. The pack measures 58 x 35 x 24 cm.

How it carries

Deuter's Contact back system pairs padded back panels with a snug, body-hugging harness, so the load stays close on a steep approach track. A sternum strap adjusts two ways for height.

Fitting it

The Gravity Motion is one size for back lengths of 44-54 cm, which Deuter match to climbers about 170-195 cm tall.

Access and organisation

The full-length back zip is the main way in, and it is why the Gravity Motion works so well at the base of a route. Straps across the front lash on extra gear, and the rope strap holds a coiled rope on top.

Weight

790 g for a 40 litre pack, light enough that it never feels like extra load on the walk in, with tough fabric where it meets rock and dirt.

Looking after it

The pack combines 600D TPU-coated polyester, a tough tarpaulin-style fabric, with 330D recycled polyamide, and the finish is made without intentionally added PFAS. Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
