Futura Pro 32

The Deuter Futura Pro 32 is the Futura with an adjustable back. You get the same airy Aircomfort mesh, plus a VariClick harness that clicks into one of five back lengths, so the pack fits you rather than a size chart. Add a bottom compartment, two lid pockets and quick-release pole holders, and it handles a big day with ease.

Who it's for

Walkers who want one pack for long days: a full day on the Razorback, or a summer traverse of the Main Range. Deuter rate it five out of five for hiking, and outdoor Magazine named it a Test Winner in 04/2026. The recommended load of 6-10 kg covers a heavy day kit.

Capacity, and what actually fits

32 litres in a 67 x 32 x 24 cm body. A zip-out divider gives you a separate bottom compartment for a sleeping bag liner or a down jacket, with water, food, a shell and a first aid kit above. Two lid compartments, one outside and one inside, keep small things sorted, and a big front stretch pocket swallows a wet rain jacket.

How it carries

The flexi spring steel frame holds a soft mesh panel away from your back, and the mesh runs the full length into the lumbar zone for airflow and a wrapping fit. The shoulder straps anchor straight to the frame, so weight moves into the frame rather than hanging off your shoulders. Pivoting ActiveFit straps follow your stride, breathable padded hip fins with Pull-Forward adjustment take the load onto your hips, and one continuous piece of padding links straps and hip fins so nothing pinches.

Fitting it

VariClick sets the back length in five positions with an audible click: S 42-46 cm, S/M 44.5-48.5 cm, M 47-51 cm, M/L 49.5-53.5 cm and L 52-56 cm. Deuter match it to walkers about 170-205 cm tall. The stabiliser straps have two anchor positions to suit the setting you choose.

Access and organisation

The main compartment opens at the top under a drawcord and lid. Quick-release pole holders on the shoulder straps let you stash poles without stopping, and a large side stretch pocket with two openings lets you grab a bottle with the pack on. Two hip fin pockets, a wet compartment, a key clip, glasses stow and an ice axe and pole attachment round it out.

• Top-loader with drawcord and lid; outside and inside lid compartments
• Separate bottom compartment with zip-out divider
• Front stretch pocket; dual-access side stretch pocket; two hip fin pockets
• Quick-release pole attachments on the shoulder straps
• Hydration compatible, up to 3 L; rain cover included

Weight

1580 g. That is the price of an adjustable frame-anchored harness and full ventilation, and it is what lets 6-10 kg ride comfortably all day.

Looking after it

The body is 210D recycled polyamide X-Grid with a DWR made without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified. Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
