Description

The Deuter Freescape Tour 32 is a technical ski touring pack in 210D polyamide with a snow-shedding back, roll-top expansion, rear access and full alpine carry: skis, rope, two ice axes, helmet and avalanche gear. It is built for long days and multi-day traverses where the terrain gets serious.

Who it's for

Ski tourers and splitboarders heading into steeper, more committing ground. Deuter rate it five out of five for ski touring and four for snowshoeing. It suits a Main Range traverse from Guthega to Thredbo, a snow camp on the Bogong High Plains, or a trip to New Zealand's Southern Alps with crampons and a rope on the outside.

Capacity, and what actually fits

32 litres takes shovel and probe in their own front pocket, skins, a belay jacket and shell, crampons, lunch, a 3 L bladder and a thermos. The roll-top and lid lift to take extra layers on top. The pack measures 64 x 30 x 22 cm and carries a recommended 4-8 kg.

How it carries

The LiteSnow back uses EVA foam pads covered in snow-shedding Spandex, so snow does not cling and melt into your layers on a long bootpack. Padded hip fins with a gear loop and ice clipper slot, an adjustable waist belt, stabiliser straps and a one-handed sternum buckle hold the load steady, and the buckles are glove-friendly. Because the extra volume rises through the roll-top rather than the lid sitting low, you can still tip your head back to look up a couloir.

Fitting it

One size, for back lengths of 44-54 cm and skiers roughly 170-195 cm tall. Fit it over your touring layers, hip fins first, then shoulder straps and stabilisers.

Access and organisation

Load through the roll-top, or lay the pack face-down and unzip the U-shaped rear opening to reach the main compartment without unstrapping skis or a board. The lid has an outside pocket and comes off for summit pushes, and a fleece-lined pocket keeps goggles scratch-free.

  • Roll-top with height-adjustable, detachable lid; U-shaped rear opening
  • Front pocket for avalanche equipment; zipped front pocket; side pocket
  • Ski carry at the side or diagonal; snowshoe carry on the front
  • Rope strap; ice axe attachment on both sides; stowable mesh helmet holder
  • Fleece-lined goggle pocket; wet compartment; hydration compatible, up to 3 L
  • Side compression straps; safety whistle; SOS label; key clip

Weight

1130 g for a 32 litre pack with full alpine carry. That is the balance this pack is built around: everything a technical day asks for, with nothing extra on the skin track.

Looking after it

The water-repellent 210D polyamide is bluepass and Green Button certified, finished without intentionally added PFAS.
