Access Pro 60 SL

The Deuter Access Pro 60 SL is a big travel pack cut for women, with a smaller daypack that zips on for transit and comes off for exploring. Leave the main pack at the hostel in Hanoi, take the daypack out for the day, and you have everything you need without hauling the lot.

Who it's for

Women heading off on a long trip, a gap year or a few months of overland travel, where the pack is your wardrobe and your luggage. Deuter rate it five out of five for travelling, and the 8-15 kg recommended load covers a full travel kit with room for the odd walk out of town.

Capacity, and what actually fits

60 litres in a 66 x 35 x 28 cm pack takes clothes for weeks, toiletries and a pair of shoes in their own compartment, with internal compression straps holding everything flat. The day pack carries a laptop up to 13 inch (33 cm) in a padded sleeve, plus a water bottle, a jacket and your passport for the day.

How it carries

Deuter's Contact back system pairs firm, shaped padding with a snug fit so the pack sits close and the load spreads evenly, and a round spring steel frame holds its shape. Padded hip fins with pull-forward adjustment take the weight onto your hips, with stabiliser straps and a two-way sternum strap to keep it steady on the walk from the station. The daypack docks onto loops on the shoulder straps so you can carry it on your chest, valuables in sight.

Fitting it

SL is Deuter's women's fit, with a shorter back and a harness shaped for the female body. VariQuick adjustment moves the shoulder straps to fit back lengths of 35-56 cm, and Deuter match it to travellers around 158-178 cm tall. Set the back length with a few kilos in the pack: hip fins on the top of your hip bones, then slide the shoulder harness until the straps wrap your shoulders without a gap.

Access and organisation

A zipped round arch on the front opens the main compartment fully, so you can find a shirt at the bottom without unpacking the rest. The zip takes a padlock on its anchor point, and the whole harness tucks away behind a cover.

2520 g empty, and that includes a second, fully harnessed daypack. Split the two and you carry only what the day needs.

Looking after it

The body combines 600D recycled polyester with 420D recycled polyamide, and the DWR finish is made without intentionally added PFAS. The pack is bluepass and Green Button certified. Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
