Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Nano Tarp Poncho
Description
Description
The Ultra-Sil Nano Tarp Poncho is four things at once: a raincoat, a pack cover, a groundsheet and a tarp. Made from 15D Ultra-Sil Nano fabric, it packs down to about the size of a fist, which is why it ends up in the pack on trips where a rain jacket would not.
What it does
Four things for 230 g: a raincoat, a pack cover, a groundsheet and a two-person tarp. That is the entire pitch, and on a fast-and-light trip it is a very good one - you carry one item instead of three and you still have an emergency shelter if the weather turns properly bad.
Waterproofing
Waterproof 15D Ultra-Sil Nano fabric with double-stitched, tape-sealed seams and a three-panel hood, which is the construction that actually keeps rain off your face rather than funnelling it down your neck. Side snaps close it up as a poncho, and it is cut generously enough to cover a large backpack - so your pack stays dry without a separate cover.
As a shelter
Guy attachment points turn it into a 2-person shelter at 145 x 265 cm. Pair it with a Sea to Summit bug tent and you have a genuinely ultralight complete shelter, which is the setup a lot of summer thru-hikers end up with.
Weight and packed size
230 g, packing to 7.5 x 13.5 cm. That is smaller than a drink bottle for a rain jacket, a pack cover and a tarp together.
