Description

A branch through the fly, a pinhole in your air mattress, a seam that has started to weep: the Gear Aid Seam Grip WP Field Repair Kit puts the fix in your pack instead of at home. Inside the clear twist tube you get a 7 g tube of Seam Grip + WP urethane adhesive, two Tenacious Tape patches (one clear PVC, one black nylon), a reusable applicator brush and a repair guide.

What it fixes

  • Leaking tent seams, sealed from the inside
  • Small holes and tears in tents, rain gear and other camping gear
  • Pinhole leaks in air mattresses and self-inflating sleeping pads
  • Lifting boot soles and rands, re-bonded

Seam Grip + WP bonds to nylon, polyester, canvas, vinyl, leather and most outdoor fabrics, and cures to a clear, waterproof seal that resists abrasion. It does not bond to silicone-treated fabric or sil-nylon.

How to use it

  1. Clean and dry the repair area with isopropyl alcohol to remove oils and dirt. Wear disposable gloves for an easy clean-up.
  2. For a tear, run masking tape across the inside of the fabric to hold the edges, then brush the adhesive over the outside so it reaches 13 mm past the damage.
  3. For a seam, brush a thin film into the stitching and under the fabric folds. On a tent, seal from the inside.
  4. Keep the repair flat and level while it cures, 8–12 hours. A slight tack on the surface is normal and wears off with use.

Need your mattress back tonight? Find the leak by spraying soapy water and watching for bubbles, dab on the adhesive, give it 2 hours, then press a Tenacious Tape patch over the top so it overlaps the adhesive by at least 13 mm.

Work in temperatures between about 16 °C and 38 °C (60–100 °F) with humidity above 40%. Once cured, the repair handles roughly −29 °C to 82 °C (−20 to 180 °F). One tube seals around 3.7 m (12 ft) of seam.

Shelf life and storage

Opened tubes last longer in the cold. Cover the nozzle with a scrap of foil, push the leftover adhesive towards the neck, cap it and keep the tube in a plastic bag in the freezer. Uncured adhesive comes off with rubbing alcohol; cured adhesive peels off your hands or washes off with soap and water.

FAQ's

Can Gear Aid Seam Grip WP fix a hole in a sleeping pad?
Yes. Find the leak with soapy water, clean and dry the spot, then spread Seam Grip WP 13 mm around the hole and leave the pad flat for 8–12 hours. For a faster fix, let it cure 2 hours and add a Tenacious Tape patch.

Does Gear Aid Seam Grip WP work on silnylon tents?
No. Gear Aid Seam Grip WP does not bond to silicone-treated fabric or sil-nylon. It suits nylon, polyester, canvas, vinyl and leather, so check whether your tent fly is silicone coated before you seal it.

How long does Seam Grip WP take to cure?
Gear Aid Seam Grip WP cures in 8–12 hours. Keep the repair flat and level while it sets, and let a tent cure fully before packing it. A slight surface tack afterwards is normal and fades with use.

What comes in the Gear Aid Seam Grip WP Field Repair Kit?
The Gear Aid Seam Grip WP Field Repair Kit contains a 7 g tube of Seam Grip + WP adhesive, two Tenacious Tape patches (clear PVC and black nylon), a reusable applicator brush and a repair guide, packed in a clear twist tube.

How do I seal a leaking tent seam with Seam Grip WP?
Clean the seam with isopropyl alcohol, then brush Gear Aid Seam Grip WP into the stitching and under the fabric folds from inside the tent. Leave it to cure for 8–12 hours before you pack the tent away.

How should I store an opened tube of Seam Grip WP?
Cover the opening with a small piece of foil, push the adhesive towards the neck and cap the tube. Store the partly used Gear Aid Seam Grip WP in a plastic bag in the freezer to make it last longer.
