Camelbak Octane 12 Hydration Pack

The CamelBak Octane 12 is a versatile hydration pack for big walks and long trail days: two litres of water in the Fusion reservoir, ten litres of compressible cargo space, and pockets that keep your phone, fuel and essentials within easy reach.

Who it's for

Day hikers, fastpackers and trail runners who want more than a vest but less than a daypack. A summit day on Mount Kosciuszko, a long section of the Great North Walk, or a hot morning in the Glass House Mountains, carrying water, food, a rain shell and a warm layer.

Capacity and fit

The Octane 12 carries a 2 L Fusion reservoir and 10 L of compressible cargo space. A stretch overflow pocket on the outside takes last-minute extras like a rain jacket or shoes. Mesh side pockets take a water bottle of up to about 946 mL on one side, with an angled smaller pocket for bars on the other.

The harness is CamelBak's Command Center design, giving easy, secure access to your phone, keys and fuel. A dual adjustable sternum strap lets you set it for a secure, comfortable fit, and the 3D Vent Mesh back panel, ridged EVA foam with moulded air channels under a light recycled mesh, is designed to keep your back cool by letting air flow. A trekking pole attachment lets you attach and remove poles when needed, and reflective details help you be seen if the walk runs late.

Drinking and refilling

The 2 L Fusion reservoir is CamelBak's lightweight reservoir. Top it up whenever you pass a creek you trust or a car park tap, and carry a bottle in the side pocket as a backup on long, hot days.

Looking after it

The body is Cordura nylon 75 denier ripstop with a PU-coated back and a water-repellent C0 DWR finish. After a muddy day, empty the pack, brush off the dirt and let it dry fully, open, before you store it.
