Legionnaire Cap

The XTM Performance Legionnaire Cap is a unisex sun cap for hiking, with a flat peak up front and a neck protector draping down the back and sides. The 150 gsm fabric is UPF certified by ARPANSA, woven from 90% recycled nylon and 10% spandex, and finished with a PFAS-free DWR. Mesh-lined ventilation panels, a snap at the front of the neck cape and an elastic cord-lock adjuster at the back. It weighs 80 g on average and comes in two sizes, S/M (58 cm) and L/XL (61.5 cm), in slate blue or sand.

Who it's for

Anyone spending long hours under a hard Australian sun. The Legionnaire is made for a summer day on the Larapinta, a beach walk on K'gari, a full day of fishing on the flats or a weekend volunteering at the local fun run. It suits the walker who wants proper neck and ear cover without the bulk and wind-catch of a wide-brim hat.

Fit and layering

Two sizes, measured around the head: S/M fits 58 cm and L/XL fits 61.5 cm. An elastic and cord-lock adjuster at the back lets you snug it down for a windy ridge or loosen it on a hot climb. The neck protector hangs loose for airflow, or closes under the chin with the snap at the front of the neck when the sun is low and side-on. XTM also make the neck protector detachable, so the Legionnaire wears as a plain cap on cooler days.

Fabric and construction

A 70D x 40D weave of 90% recycled nylon and 10% spandex, at 150 gsm, gives the cap a little stretch and a soft feel. The fabric carries ARPANSA UPF certification and a PFAS-free DWR coating, so a passing shower beads off instead of soaking in. Breathable vent panels with a mesh lining sit across the crown to let heat escape. The Legionnaire Cap is a certified carbon neutral product.

Care

Hand wash only, in cold water, without fabric softener or bleach. Do not wring it out; press out the water and dry it flat. Keep it out of the tumble dryer and away from the iron.
