Description

The Sea to Summit Frontier Ultralight Pot is a hard-anodised aluminium camp cooking pot with a ceramic non-stick coating, a strainer lid and a removable Click Safe handle, made in 1.3 L, 2 L and 3 L sizes. It is the pot for walkers and bike tourers who want to cook properly without carrying a kitchen.

Who it's for

Anyone carrying their kitchen on their back or their bike. Sea to Summit build these for thru-hiking, lightweight backpacking and cycle touring, and we stock them because they are a real cooking pot at a weight you will happily carry: fry off the onions, simmer the dahl, and nothing welds itself to the base.

Capacity and what it cooks

  • 1.3 L (208 g): the solo pot. Boils water for a dehydrated dinner and a cuppa in one go, or cooks a one-person pasta.
  • 2 L (255.4 g): dinner for two, with room to stir.
  • 3 L (304 g): three or four people, or a couple who like a big pot of soup.

Volume marks are pressed into the inside wall, so you can measure water for rice or a freeze-dried meal without a cup. Strainer holes in the lid let you pour off pasta water with the lid held on.

Materials and heat

Hard-anodised aluminium moves heat quickly and evenly, which means less gas burnt and no scorched ring in the middle of the pot. The ceramic non-stick coating is PTFE-free, and the pot is BPA-free and non-PFAS. The wide curve where the base meets the wall lets a spoon or spatula get right into the corner, for cooking and for cleaning.

Use it on a gas, liquid fuel or alcohol stove. It is not made for open fires, and aluminium will not work on an induction cooktop.

Packing and nesting

With the handle reversed over the lid, the 1.3 L packs to 15.6 x 14.5 x 11 cm, the 2 L to 17.4 x 16.5 x 11.2 cm and the 3 L to 19.6 x 18.5 x 13.5 cm. That reversed handle clamps the lid shut, so whatever you nest inside stays inside: a gas canister and stove, or Frontier and Passage bowls and cups, which are shaped to stack in these pots.

With the handle out ready to cook, the pots measure 25.6 x 14.5 x 10 cm (1.3 L), 30.1 x 16.5 x 11.2 cm (2 L) and 32.5 x 18.5 x 13.5 cm (3 L).

Handles and safety

The stainless steel Click Safe handle snaps onto the pot with a click you can hear, and once it has clicked you can lift a full pot with confidence. It comes off for packing and fits any other Frontier pot. The silicone LidKeep on the lid hooks over the rim of the pot, so the lid hangs there while you stir instead of sitting in the dirt.

Cleaning

Wipe it out or wash by hand with a soft cloth. Keep it out of the dishwasher: the detergent attacks the anodised finish.

FAQ's

What size Frontier Ultralight Pot do I need?
Choose the 1.3 L Frontier Ultralight Pot for solo trips, the 2 L for two people and the 3 L for three or four. Go up a size if you cook one-pot meals from scratch instead of boiling water for dehydrated food.

How much does the Frontier Ultralight Pot weigh?
The Sea to Summit Frontier Ultralight Pot weighs 208 g in the 1.3 L size, 255.4 g in the 2 L and 304 g in the 3 L. Each weight is the packed pot with its lid and Click Safe handle.

Can you use a Frontier Ultralight Pot on a campfire?
No. The Frontier Ultralight Pot and its Click Safe handle are made for camp stoves and are not intended for use on open fires. Use the Frontier Ultralight Pot on a gas, liquid fuel or alcohol stove.

Does the Frontier Ultralight Pot work on induction?
No. The Frontier Ultralight Pot is aluminium, which does not work on an induction cooktop. For induction, look at the Sea to Summit Detour stainless steel pots instead.

Are Frontier Ultralight Pots dishwasher safe?
No. Wash the Frontier Ultralight Pot and its lid by hand. The pot and lid are anodised aluminium, and the caustic detergent used in dishwashers damages the anodised finish.

Is the Frontier Ultralight Pot non-stick coating safe?
The Frontier Ultralight Pot uses a ceramic non-stick coating that is PTFE-free, and the cookware is BPA-free and non-PFAS. It meets food-grade standards in Europe, Japan, South Korea and the United States.

Does the Click Safe handle come off?
Yes. The Click Safe handle on the Frontier Ultralight Pot is removable. Reverse it over the lid to lock the lid and anything nested inside for transport. The handle also fits other Frontier pots.
