Frontier UL Collapsible Dinnerware Set (6 Piece)
Description
Description
The Sea to Summit Frontier UL Collapsible Dinnerware Set gives two people a full table setting that folds away to almost nothing: two large bowls, two medium bowls and two cups. Each piece pops up to full size for a meal and presses down under 2 cm afterwards, and all six stack into one flat disc.
Who it's for
A couple or a pair of mates who want to eat properly at camp without the dishes taking over the pack. Porridge in the medium bowls and a hot drink in the cups at dawn, then a big curry in the large bowls that night. It suits an overnight walk in the Gold Coast hinterland as well as a week of paddling on the Murray, and we stock it because a proper bowl and cup each makes camp meals feel like meals.
- 2 large bowls for dinner, salads and noodle soups
- 2 medium bowls for breakfast, snacks and sides
- 2 cups for tea, coffee or soup
Materials and heat
Every piece has a base and rim of glass-reinforced nylon 66 and a folding wall of food-grade silicone. By weight the set is 63% nylon and 37% silicone. The silicone is BPA-free and certified to EU and FDA food standards, and the whole set is free of BPA, PFOA and PTFE.
The stiff rim is what makes these easy to live with. You hold a bowl of hot soup by the rim and the wall cannot fold on you. The cups add a ring around the middle as well, which keeps their shape when full and puts a layer between your fingertips and a hot brew. Sea to Summit test the pieces on a rig that opens and collapses each one 5,000 times, so folding them after every meal is exactly what they are built for.
Serve hot food straight from the pot, and keep the bowls and cups off the stove.
Packing and nesting
Folded, each bowl and cup is under 2 cm tall, and they nest inside one another. The full set of six packs to 17.8 x 17.8 x 4.7 cm and weighs 394.4 g, about the footprint of a side plate. The stack also fits inside the Sea to Summit Frontier 2 L Pouring Pot, so pot and dishes travel as one piece.
Cleaning
The curve where the wall meets the base follows the shape of a Sea to Summit spoon, so you scrape out the last of the meal and leave very little to wash. At camp, a rinse and a wipe does it. At home, every piece goes in the dishwasher.
