Fillo Elite Wide Ultralight Backpacking Pillow

The Fillo Elite Wide is Nemo's ultralight backpacking pillow in a wider cut: an inflatable air cell topped with recycled insulation, wrapped in a soft jersey cover, that rolls up into a stuff sack sewn into the pillow itself.

Who it's for

Walkers who count grams and still want to sleep. The Fillo Elite Wide earns its place on a week along the Australian Alps Walking Track or an overnight dash up Mount Barney, and it is wide enough that you can turn from one shoulder to the other and still find pillow under your head.

It suits side sleepers and broad shoulders in particular, and anyone done with sleeping on a stuff sack full of spare clothes.

Air, foam, or both

Air underneath, insulation on top. The air cell is built with I-beam baffles, internal walls that hold the pillow in a flat, pillow-like shape instead of letting it dome up like a balloon. Over that sits a layer of PrimaLoft insulation made from post-consumer recycled material, which is what you feel against your cheek: soft and cushioned, with no cold, bouncy plastic.

The valve is micro-adjustable. Blow the pillow up in a few breaths, lie down, then let air out a little at a time until the firmness is right.

Size and loft

This is the wide one. It has the same construction as the standard Fillo Elite with more pillow from side to side, which is what keeps it under your head when you change sides in the night. Fully inflated it has the loft to fill the gap between shoulder and ear for a side sleeper; back sleepers can let some air out and lie lower.

Packed size and weight

The Fillo Elite Wide is an ultralight pillow that packs about as small as a soft-drink can. The stuff sack is part of the pillow, so it cannot go missing in the bottom of your pack: deflate, roll, and tuck the pillow into it.

Washing it

The polyester jersey cover comes off and goes in the washing machine. After a week of sunscreen, sweat and campfire smoke, that is the part you will be glad of.
