Description
Tailwind Endurance Fuel is an all-in-one drink mix - calories, electrolytes and hydration in one bottle, so you are not juggling gels, tablets and water. Each scoop gives 100 calories and 310 mg of sodium, a single-serve packet doubles that, and Tailwind keeps the taste light and clean.
What it is and when to use it
One drink that covers calories, electrolytes and fluid, so you can stop carrying gels, tablets and water as three separate problems. Tip the powder into a bottle, shake, go.
Tailwind designs Endurance Fuel to be the only fuel you carry, sipped during the workout, race or adventure itself. The calories are carbohydrate from dextrose and cane sugar, and the formula is built to be easy on your gut, which matters most once eating has stopped being appealing.
Taste and texture
Light and clean rather than heavy - the trait that matters when you are drinking the same thing for hours. It mixes clear and rinses clean, with no artificial dyes, so the bottle or bladder is not left coloured.
Eight flavours: Lemon, Mandarin, Berry, Grape, Dauwaltermelon and the unflavoured Naked without caffeine; Raspberry and Tropical with it. Naked is the one to try if you would rather not drink a flavoured mix all day.
Caffeine, sodium and what varies
Six flavours are caffeine-free and two carry it: Raspberry and Tropical have 35 mg of caffeine per scoop, or 70 mg in a single-serve packet. That lets you run plain early and switch to a caffeinated bottle later rather than caffeinating from the gun. Sodium is the same in every flavour, 310 mg per scoop, which Tailwind says should be enough even for salty sweaters. The formula is non-GMO, vegan, and free of gluten, soy and dairy. Check the pack label if you are managing sodium or caffeine precisely.
How to take it
Tailwind's label starts at 2-3 scoops in 710 ml of water per hour for long efforts, or 1-2 scoops an hour for shorter workouts, adjusted to taste and calorie needs. Because the calories and the fluid arrive together, the drink is the plan. On hot days Tailwind says to keep the calories and add water, and to cut back the mix if you are also eating. Single-serve packets are 200 calories each; the 30 and 50 serving bags let you mix to your own concentration.
