Description

The Deuter Trans Alpine 30 is a bike pack built for days in a row in the saddle: 30 litres of recycled polyester and polyamide, organised for riders, on a ventilated Airstripes back stiffened by aluminium stays. There is a place for the pump, the tools, the helmet and a spare set of clothes, and a sit mat for lunch on a rock.

Who it's for

Mountain bikers on multi-day tours and hut-to-hut rides, and riders who want everything for a long day on their back. Deuter rate it five out of five for mountain biking and touring. It suits the Munda Biddi Trail, a few days on the Tasmanian Trail, the Mawson Trail through the Flinders Ranges or a big day in Derby with a full kit.

Capacity, and what actually fits

30 litres takes clothes for two or three days, a light down jacket, a rain shell, tools, a tube, food and a 3 L hydration bladder. A zip-out divider closes off the base for a sleeping bag or dirty kit, a wet laundry compartment keeps muddy gear apart, and the tool organiser, pump pocket and valuables pocket each have their place. The pack measures 54 x 28 x 24 cm.

How it carries

The Airstripes back runs two padded strips with a ventilation channel between them, so air moves across most of your back, and adaptable aluminium frame stays give the pack shape and spread the load. Padded shoulder straps, stabiliser straps, a two-way sternum strap with one-handed buckle and snug, breathable hip fins hold it still on technical descents.

Fitting it

The Trans Alpine 30 is one size for back lengths of 44-54 cm, matched to riders around 170-195 cm tall. The aluminium stays can be shaped to your back for a closer fit. Snug the hip fins, then the shoulder straps, and set the sternum strap so it clears your throat when you are low over the bars.

Access and organisation

A round arch zip opens the main compartment wide. The front mesh stash pocket closes with a buckle and swallows a helmet when you are walking into a hut. A side smartphone pocket and glasses stow keep the small things handy.

  • Tool organiser and side zip pocket for a pump
  • Front mesh stash pocket with buckle, big enough for a helmet
  • Zip-out divider to a base compartment; wet laundry compartment
  • Side smartphone pocket and valuables pocket
  • Hydration compatible, up to 3 L; removable rain cover
  • Removable sitting mat; reflective details

Weight

1250 g empty. For a 30 litre framed bike pack with rain cover, sit mat and full organisation, that is what carrying multi-day touring kit comfortably on your back weighs.

Looking after it

The fabrics are recycled, made without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified. Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
