Trans Alpine 28 SL

The Deuter Trans Alpine 28 SL is a women's bike pack built for days that run into each other: tools, pump, spare clothes and lunch, organised so you can find each one at the side of the trail.

Who it's for

Women riding multi-day mountain bike tours and big trail days: the Munda Biddi in sections or the Tasmanian Trail. Deuter rate it five out of five for mountain biking and for touring.

Capacity, and what actually fits

28 litres takes spare clothes and a light sleeping layer in the lower section, food and a rain jacket above, tools in the organiser and a pump in its own side pocket. A 3 L bladder fits in the hydration sleeve. The front stash pocket swallows a helmet when you walk into town. The pack measures 52 x 27 x 22 cm.

How it carries

Adaptable aluminium frame stays give the pack structure and can be shaped to your back. The Airstripes back puts two padded strips against you with a ventilation channel and 3D mesh between them, so air flows across most of your back and the load sits snug on rough descents. Breathable mesh hip fins, padded shoulder straps, stabiliser straps and a 2-way adjustable sternum strap with one-handed buckle keep it from shifting.

Fitting it

SL is Deuter's women's fit: a back length of 38-48 cm and a harness shaped for the female body, for riders about 158-178 cm tall. Fit it in your riding position, leaning forward, so the hip fins sit on your hips and the shoulder straps do not dig in at the neck.

Access and organisation

A round arch zip opens the main compartment wide, and a zip-out divider separates the lower section. Inside are a tool organiser, a valuables pocket and a wet laundry compartment. Outside: a mesh front pocket with buckle closure, a zipped pump pocket on the side, a side phone pocket, a glasses stow on the shoulder strap and a helmet attachment.

Weight

1170 g, with frame stays, a rain cover and a sit mat included. That covers everything a multi-day ride asks of a pack, which is why we stock the Trans Alpine for bike touring.

Looking after it

The body is 600D recycled polyester and 210D recycled polyamide with a finish made without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified. Deuter cover it with a 2-year warranty.
