Description

The Deuter Trans Alpine 24 is a pack for rides that go on for days. Enough room for spare clothes and a few nights' kit, organised so the tools, pump and phone are always where you left them, and a harness that stays put when the trail gets rough.

Who it's for

Mountain bike tourers and anyone on long, self-supported rides. Deuter rate it five out of five for mountain biking and for touring. Picture the Munda Biddi Trail in Western Australia, the Tasmanian Trail end to end, or a multi-day lap of the Victorian High Country, where you ride light but still carry a change of clothes and a rain shell.

Capacity, and what actually fits

24 litres in a 51 x 27 x 20 cm body. A zip-out divider splits the main compartment so a sleeping bag liner or camp clothes sit separately at the bottom, with your day layers above. A 3 L bladder goes in its sleeve, and a wet laundry compartment keeps yesterday's kit away from today's.

How it carries

Adaptable aluminium frame stays give the pack its shape and can be bent to match your back. The Airstripes back puts padding on two strips with a ventilation channel and 3D mesh between, moving air across most of your back. Snug, breathable mesh hip fins, padded shoulder straps, stabiliser straps and a one-handed sternum buckle keep the load from shifting on rough descents.

Fitting it

One size for back lengths of 44-54 cm, which Deuter match to riders around 170-195 cm tall. Ride with it loaded before a big trip, adjust the hip fins and sternum strap so the pack sits close, and shape the aluminium stays to your back if it needs it.

Access and organisation

A round arched zip opens the main compartment wide. The tool organiser holds your multi-tool, levers and tube, a zipped side pocket takes the pump, and a side smartphone pocket keeps your phone reachable. The front mesh stash pocket, closed with a buckle, takes a jacket or your helmet when you walk into a café.

  • Main compartment with zip-out divider; round arched zip opening
  • Tool organiser; zipped pump pocket; side smartphone pocket
  • Front mesh stash pocket with buckle, takes a helmet; helmet attachment
  • Wet laundry compartment; valuables compartment; key clip
  • Hydration compatible, up to 3 L

Weight

1180 g, which pays for aluminium stays, a full harness, a rain cover and a sitting mat for lunch stops. On a multi-day ride, that structure is what keeps the pack comfortable on day four.

Looking after it

The body is 600D recycled polyester and 210D recycled polyamide, finished without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified.
