Junior Bike

The Deuter Junior Bike is a proper riding pack scaled down for young cyclists: 8 litres in recycled polyester and polyamide, a ventilated Airstripes back and room for a 2 litre water bladder. At 350 g it is light enough that a kid forgets it is there on the bike.

Who it's for

Kids from about 130 to 168 cm tall who are riding further than the end of the street: weekend trail loops with the family, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail in short sections, pump-track sessions, or the ride to school. It also does duty as a light day pack for the zoo or a beach walk.

Capacity, and what actually fits

8 litres holds a 2 L bladder, a rain jacket or jumper, a snack box and a small first aid kit. The stretch mesh front pocket takes a muesli bar and gloves, the zipped side pocket keeps small things safe, and a wet laundry compartment keeps damp swimmers or a muddy jersey away from the rest. The pack measures 38 x 22 x 14 cm.

How it carries

The Airstripes back runs two padded strips with a ventilation channel between them, so air moves across most of the back and the pack stays snug without swinging when they stand up on the pedals. Padded shoulder straps and a two-way adjustable sternum strap hold it in place.

Fitting it

The Junior Bike fits back lengths of 32-44 cm, which Deuter match to kids around 130-168 cm tall. Set the shoulder straps so the base of the pack sits just above the hips, then clip the sternum strap across the chest. Check the fit again each season as they grow.

Weight

350 g empty, so nearly everything they carry is water and snacks rather than pack.

Looking after it

The fabrics are recycled, made without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified.
