Futura Air Trek 55+10 SL

The Deuter Futura Air Trek 55+10 SL is a women's trekking pack built for long, warm days with a full load, where a sweaty back is the thing that wears you down. On a multi-day walk along the Great Ocean Walk or the Thorsborne Trail, the ventilated mesh back makes the difference by day two.

Who it's for

Women and shorter-backed walkers on multi-day hikes and long-haul travel with camping gear. Deuter rate it five out of five for trekking and three for travelling, and the 8-15 kg recommended load covers tent, sleeping bag, stove and several days of food.

Capacity, and what actually fits

55 litres in a 73 x 34 x 26 cm pack, plus 10 more when you raise the lid. A zip-out divider separates the base of the main compartment for a sleeping bag; above it go food, cooking kit and clothes, with an elastic inner sleeve for a 3 L bladder or wet gear.

How it carries

A round spring steel frame tensions the Aircomfort mesh away from your back so air flows between you and the load. VariFlex hip fins of reinforced foam move with your stride and pull forward to lock the weight onto your hips, while stabiliser straps and a two-way sternum strap keep a heavy pack in control on rough track.

Fitting it

SL is Deuter's women's fit, with a shorter back and a harness shaped for the female body. VariSlide adjusts the back length precisely across 35-56 cm, and Deuter match it to walkers around 158-178 cm tall. Load it with 10 kg or so, set the hip fins on top of your hip bones, then slide the harness until the shoulder straps wrap your shoulders without a gap.

Access and organisation

Open the main compartment from the top, or use the front zip to get to the middle of the pack without unloading it.

Weight

2100 g empty for a fully adjustable, ventilated 65 litre carry. That weight goes into the steel frame, the suspended mesh and hip fins that will carry 15 kg comfortably for days.

Looking after it

The body combines 210D recycled polyamide with tough, PU-coated 600D polyester, and it is made without intentionally added PFAS. Deuter back it with a 2-year warranty.
