Description
The Deuter Freerider Pro 30+10 SL is a women's-fit touring pack that keeps your shovel and probe a zip away, your skis on your back and the snow off your shirt. Roll the top out for an overnight hut trip, roll it down for a day of laps.
Who it's for
Women and shorter-backed skiers, splitboarders and snowshoers heading into the backcountry. Deuter rate it five out of five for freeride and for ski touring. That is a bluebird day on the Main Range from Charlotte Pass, a lap of the Bogong High Plains, or a winter crossing to Mount Feathertop with a night at a hut. The 6-10 kg recommended load fits avalanche gear, water, food and a spare layer.
Capacity, and what actually fits
30 litres for a day, 40 with the roll-top extended. The day load is shovel and probe in the avalanche pocket, a 3 L hydration bladder, a puffy and a shell, lunch and a thermos. Roll it out and there is room for a sleeping bag liner, a stove and the extra layers of an overnight trip. Even full, the pack sits low enough that you can look uphill without it hitting your helmet. It measures 54 x 32 x 20 cm.
How it carries
A flexible Delrin U-frame gives the pack shape and transfers the load to padded hip fins with zipped pockets. The LiteSnow back is EVA foam padding with recesses covered in a snow-shedding stretch fabric, so snow does not cling and soak through when you drop the pack in powder. Padded shoulder straps, stabiliser straps and a one-handed sternum buckle you can work with gloves on keep it steady on the descent.
Fitting it
The Freerider Pro 30+10 SL is one size for back lengths of 38-48 cm, which Deuter match to people around 158-178 cm tall. The SL harness is shorter than Deuter's standard packs and shaped for a woman's body. Fit it over your ski jacket, not a T-shirt, and set the hip fins on your hip bones before tensioning the shoulder straps.
Access and organisation
A U-shaped zip opens the whole back panel, and because the zip runs below the shoulder straps you can get in with skis or a board still strapped on. The top also loads through a zip. Avalanche tools live in a dedicated front pocket so you are not digging for them in an emergency. Inside there is a wet compartment and a zipped mesh pocket, plus a fleece-lined goggles pocket, a glasses stow loop and a key clip.
- Rear clamshell opening plus zipped top loader
- Front pocket for avalanche equipment
- Ski carry at the side or diagonally; snowboard and snowshoe carry on the front
- Ice axe attachment on both sides; rope strap

Weight
1080 g for a framed 30-40 L touring pack with full ski, board and axe carry. Light enough for long skin tracks, with a harness that handles a heavier hut-trip load.
Looking after it
The body is 200D recycled polyamide ripstop finished without intentionally added PFAS, and the pack is bluepass and Green Button certified.
