Description
Description
The Arva Plume TS is the telescopic version of Arva's Plume shovel: a compact 1.5 mm anodised aluminium blade on an oval shaft that extends from 62 to 76 cm. It comes apart into blade and shaft for the pack, goes together quickly with PIN LOCK, and extends when you need leverage.
Who it's for
Ski tourers and splitboarders who want a light shovel without giving up a telescopic shaft, for long days on the Main Range, spring traverses in the Victorian high country and bigger trips to New Zealand and Japan. A shovel belongs in every pack in the party, next to the transceiver and probe.
Digging in a rescue
The blade measures 25 by 21 cm, including the joint to the shaft, and is 1.5 mm anodised aluminium, part of the extremely lightweight, compact blade Arva fit to the Plume TS. The oval shaft runs out to 76 cm for a longer stroke, then collapses to 45 cm when you pack it away.
Using it under pressure
PIN LOCK makes it quick and easy to put the blade and shaft together, and an ergonomic T-grip handle sits at the top of the shaft for digging and passing snow downhill. Assemble it at home a few times before the season so the movement is automatic.
Looking after it
Dry the blade and shaft before packing them away after a tour, and check that PIN LOCK engages cleanly and the telescopic shaft locks at full length before each trip.
