Description
The Mammut Ophir Fast Adjust is a men's climbing harness built for the gym and the sport crag, with leg loops you resize in a couple of seconds. Slide the buckle along the webbing until the loop sits snug and you are done: no tail of strap flapping against your thigh or catching on a quickdraw.
Certification and strength
- UIAA Safety Label
- Haul loop: 4 kN
The Ophir Fast Adjust is personal protective equipment, so read Mammut's user manual before you tie in. The haul loop at the back is there for trailing a rope or clipping a chalk bag, not for belaying or tying in.
What it is for
Indoor climbing and single-pitch sport routes are where this harness belongs: after-work sessions at the gym, a weekend clipping bolts at Nowra or Kangaroo Point, a first trip to the Blue Mountains. It will come along on a multipitch day as well.
The adjustable leg loops are the reason to choose it. Shorts in January and thick pants in July need different leg loops, and the Fast Adjust buckle lets one harness do both. It also makes the Ophir an easy harness to share or to grow into.
Mammut's two-part webbing spreads your weight across the waist belt and leg loops, which you notice when you are hanging at a bolt working out the next move. The tie-in loops are protected against abrasion, the spot where a harness wears first.
Weight
The Ophir Fast Adjust weighs 360 g.
Sizing
Measure your waist over the clothes you climb in, then your upper thigh.
- XS: waist 61–71 cm, leg 48–54 cm
- S: waist 67–77 cm, leg 51–57 cm
- M: waist 73–85 cm, leg 55–61 cm
- L: waist 80–92 cm, leg 59–65 cm
If you fall between two sizes, we would take the smaller one for gym and summer climbing and the larger one if you climb in layers.
Handling
Four gear loops carry a sport rack of quickdraws with room for a belay device and a locking carabiner. Size S has two gear loops, because the shorter belt has less room. Two extra loops take an ice-screw carabiner.
Inspection
Before each session, run your fingers over the tie-in loops and belay loop for cuts, fuzzing or stiff patches, and check that each buckle holds the webbing without slipping.
