The CamelBak Podium is the bike water bottle most riders already know by feel: a soft squeeze bottle with a self-sealing cap, a lock-out valve and a body shaped to stay in the cage. It comes in 0.6 L and 0.7 L.

Who it's for

Road riders, gravel riders, mountain bikers and commuters who want a bottle they can grab, squeeze and put back without looking down. If you are rolling out of Nerang for a hinterland loop or spinning along the river before work, this is the bottle that lives on the bike.

It is the light, uninsulated Podium. If you want your water kept cold through a Queensland summer ride, look at the Podium Chill; if you want the lightest bottle in the cage, this is the one.

Capacity and fit

Two sizes. The 0.6 L bottle weighs 73 g and measures 20.9 cm tall by 7.4 cm across. The 0.7 L bottle weighs 77 g and measures 22.8 cm tall by 7.4 cm across.

Both are the same width, so both fit the same cage, and the Podium is engineered to sit securely in a wide range of them. The choice comes down to frame room. Small frames, full-suspension bikes and anything carrying a frame bag usually want the shorter 0.6 L. If the taller bottle clears your top tube, the 0.7 L gives you the extra water for 4 g more.

Drinking and refilling

You do not pull the nozzle open with your teeth. The cap seals itself: squeeze and water comes out fast, stop squeezing and it shuts, so there is no spray on your top tube when you hit a pothole. The body is soft enough that you get a proper mouthful with one hand and little effort, which is what you want when you are breathing hard on a climb.

Close the on/off valve to lock the bottle shut before it goes in your kit bag, and it travels without leaking onto your jersey and shoes.

Cleaning and mould

This version of the Podium was redesigned to be easier to clean, and it is worth using that. Rinse the bottle the day you ride, especially after sports drink, and leave it to dry with the cap off. Sugar left in a cap for a week is how a bottle starts to taste wrong.
