It is made for warm-weather day walks where a sweat-soaked back is the thing that wears you down first.

Who it's for

Day walkers heading out for a full day on track, carrying water, food and layers rather than overnight gear. Deuter rate the AC Lite 24 five out of five for hiking, and the recommended 3-6 kg load suits a summer loop through Springbrook or a Blue Mountains cliff-top walk with lunch and a rain shell on board.

Capacity, and what actually fits

24 litres takes a 2 L bladder in its own sleeve, a rain jacket, a warm layer, lunch, a first aid kit and a head torch, with the lid compartments holding the small things you reach for. The pack measures 57 x 30 x 23 cm. Gear loops and a pole attachment carry folded trekking poles outside.

How it carries

A round profile spring steel frame tensions the back mesh so the pack body arcs away from you, leaving an air gap that lets heat escape on a humid climb. The frame also spreads the load evenly so 5 kg sits steady on your hips. Ergonomic padded hip fins and a 2-way adjustable sternum strap finish the harness, and the shoulder straps carry a glasses stow loop so your sunnies are always in reach.

Fitting it

The AC Lite 24 is one size, built for back lengths of 44-54 cm, which suits walkers around 170-195 cm tall. Load a few kilos, settle the hip fins over your hip bones, then snug the shoulder straps and clip the sternum strap.

Access and organisation

The main compartment loads from the top under a drawcord and lid.
